League Rules

Our focus for the GFFL league is to educate the players, coaches, and parents with the basic rules of Futsal. To achieve this outcome, our referees will be acting as educators rather than enforcers of the laws of Futsal. We encourage the coaches, players, and parents to focus on familiarizing themselves with the laws of the game, and as players become acclimated to the format of Futsal, the referees will become stricter with infringements in the game. For the complete FIFA rules and laws of the game, visit the link at the bottom of the page.

Everything is the same as soccer except for the following:

  • Futsal is low contact, meaning players should not use their arms and shoulders to push people off of the ball. As well, there should be no leg to leg contact of any kind.

    • Any sort of contact in order to win the ball should be called and a direct free kick is the result at the area of the foul.

    • Any time this foul occurs inside the goalie box, the penalty should result in a pk on the free throw line. All players must leave the goalie box.

  • Players should be 5 paces away from all free kicks. Players can ask for 5 paces if they would like.

  • Players have 3 seconds for all restarts.

    • We will allow for a couple warnings on this.

    • If this is broken more than once then switch possession.

  • There are no throw ins. Kick ins when the ball goes out of touch on the side.

    • Players must place their hand on the ball while it is on the sideline before kicking the ball.

    • Restart play if this does not happen. If this is broken more than once then switch possession.

  • Goal kicks are actually goal throws. Keepers must throw the ball if it is a goal throw. They cannot play it at their feet.

    • If a keeper makes a save in the play, they can drop the ball and play at their feet.

    • If these rules are broken, give one redo for each new keeper, after that the result should be an indirect free kick in the middle of the field between the goal box and the center circle.

  • When the keeper is throwing the ball:

    • They must throw the ball underhand

    • The ball must hit the ground in their half or a player in their half

    • If these rules are broken, give one redo for each new keeper, after that the result should be an indirect free kick in the middle of the field between the goal box and the center circle.

  • Goalies cannot pick up the ball after a field player has purposely played the ball back to them.

    • If this rule is broken the result should be an indirect free kick in the middle of the field between the goal box and the center circle.

  • Field players can only play the goalies feet one time before crossing half field. After you cross half field this number resets.

    • The exception to this rule is a goal throw. You will receive an extra pass back to the keeper after a goal throw.

    • If this rule is broken the result should be an indirect free kick in the middle of the field between the goal box and the center circle.
